10 Hotel Listening, Speaking and Vocabulary Exercises and Worksheets

The tourism industry including hotels, travel services, airlines and airports and related services have a lot of specific terminology. This essential vocabulary can be taught with the help of listening activities, pictures of items, equipment, locations commonly encountered  these working environments. . Role plays and speaking activities can help practice common conversational interactions and prepare students for internships or jobs in the tourism and hospitality fields.

1 Common phrasal verbs for hotels

This is an exercise helping students become familiar with the use of phrasal verbs in hotels. Phrasal verbs are commonly used in everyday English conversations in the hospitality industry. Learning these expressions allows hotel staff to communicate effectively with other staff and guests, understand instructions, and handle various situations that may arise.

7 Writing a  conversation: booking a hotel picture dialogue and listening activity

  This is an ESL listening/speaking and writing lesson  for practicing basic language for booking a room in a hotel. Students look at the pictures and write an appropriate conversation for booking a room. The they can listen to the audio and compare their answers.

8 Essential hotel vocabulary worksheet

This is an English language exercise introducing and exploring the language and vocabulary of hotels. Students try to match the vocabulary with the appropriate pictures.

The picture sheet can be used in various ways. The teacher can randomly dictate the words from the second page, using sentences to give context and the students label the pictures with the appropriate vocabulary. Or the vocabulary can be scrambled on the board or on a sheet (see PDF page 3).
